SPIDER-RITA'S FLIGHT

This is the biggest individual project I have worked on to date. I am pretty happy with how the animation has turned out as there were tons of technical challenges and constraints between the spiderwebs, parenting and improving as an animator.

ITERATION 089

I had a pretty strict time constraint with the final touches with this animation as the Pixar Winter Internships were closing within a few days. I wanted to make sure this piece made it into my demo reel as I am pretty proud of how this animation has come along. Towards the end of this project, the animation started becoming further from real-time as I had many spiderweb rigs that were all being separately animated. This started to slow down my computer and I had to hide some of the spiderwebs for a smoother experience. The only part of this animation I am unhappy with is the camera jitter and speeds up the animation when she turns the corner.

ITERATION 059

I reached out to get a critique and feedback from one of my professors. From their feedback, I decided to change the camera to appeal to certain poses more by flipping the camera to the other side of the bridge, along with the camera leading so we can see Spider-Rita's movements more clearly. I had to redo a bunch of work that I already had pretty solid, but I think it improves the overall animation quite a bit.

ITERATION 049

By iteration 49, I needed help with the feet when Spider-Rita was swinging. I couldn't really find a solution that I liked so I reached out to one of my professors for their feedback. I started playing with the spiderweb rig to figure out how it worked. It ended up being a really easy rig to work with. I was mainly focused on the main body masses such as the chest and hips.

ITERATION 033

This iteration is when I imported the character, parented the hip control to the basic primitive shapes & then set up my initial key poses to hit throughout the animation. I also refined the camera to flow a little bit easier. I didn't set up any parent constraints to the luggage yet.

ITERATION 021

This was my initial blocking and the original idea for my animation. This took my a few days to figure out how I wanted the camera to look. I had issues with the gimbal of the camera, so I tried using a aim-constraint camera, but whenever I was blocking it, the camera's animation would get reset after I would try and preview it.

I wanted the general story of the animation for Spider-Rita to be late for her flight and she is swinging through the city, but she doesn't have full control over the luggage she is swinging with yet. She still needs to learn how to swing with other objects.
