GAMING MONTAGES

Most animators and 3d artists take a love for animation and motion graphics through nostalgic cartoons and films. I fell in love with motion through 2d effects and video game montages. Here are some of the videos I made before learning how to use 3d softwares.

"RAW" VALORANT EDIT

I really wanted to focus on using base features exclusively for this project in After Effects. I think it turned out pretty well even while missing some of the features such as Reel Smart Motion Blur, Sapphire Plugins, or even Magic Bullet Looks. I really like the glitch effects that I made within After Effects. The effects are simple as they are a fractal noise layer with displacement maps on top that help me control the amount and the style of the distortion that is produced. I also made sure to focus on pan/crop and lighting effects such as flickers.

ADVANCED HUD ANIMATION SCRAP

In this project, I really focused on the motion graphics to create a story. I wanted to plan and get further with the cinematics and clips but I am still really happy with how the 3d text and shapes move around the screen. They are very fluent and move in a natural way. This is one of the projects that I actually worked on the sound design as well as other projects didn't have any noises other than music and maybe gunshots or the clip's audio. There are definitely things I would change about it looking back on it today. I focused too heavily on the glitchy and motion graphic elements that I never really had any good shots

"THE DARK" ROCKET LEAGUE EDIT

This project was one of the biggest projects I have ever worked on. The amount of time it took to record all of the clips, format Bakkesmod settings, sync the clips, and composite the final movie took such a long time. This project took me around 7 to 8 months to complete due to a large creative block halfway through the process too. I am fairly happy with the final result while there are always things I can improve upon in my craft.

ASSORTED ROCKET LEAGUE HC

These are three different HCs (hour contests) which I have participated in the past specifically for Rocket League. They were hosted by Rocket Universe and some of the participants were Lynxi, EQ, Echodex and Michos who are all amazing Rocket League Editors. I definitely needed improve with the sync and flow of the top right edit while the other two lacked effects and advanced techniques in them.

EXPORT_04

This is a project that is unfinished and it will probably stay unfinished as the main After Effects file I was using got corrupted so it no longer works. I had a lot of inspiration with this project and I wanted to create 3d cinematics but my editing style was too fast so the concepts clashed in certain areas. I would like to go through and redo some of the lighting and shot composition for some of the 3d shots I was working on, especially the ones with Astra. This was one of my favorite projects to work on as the creativity and my skills were getting better as an editor/3d artist.

MITO 3HC

This project was a 3hc (3 hour contest) where all of the clips were supplied but we had to find our own music and anything else we needed for the edit. I really like the theme and how I built this video. I think I did a decent job on the sync and flow, the effects looked good, and the unique lighting and subtitles helped the overall look of the edit. Some of the things that I wish I was able to work on would be adding more audio effects such as gunshots and ramps to help make the edit look better. I also think that some of the flickers were a little bit too strong in this one.

MANIFESTO

Manifesto is a project that I am really proud of the final result. I think that the sync and flow from this project turned out well and the initial concept was good as well. I think that the transition from the lighter to the intro was executed well. I think that the text looked a bit weird though and it stayed on the screen for too long. I think I could have found a different clip instead of the one on Hijacked. I don't like the movement going to the left after the first shot. It feels clunky and I could have done better. Overall the color grading, lighting, effects, pan/crop, and sync looks good in my opinion.

EVERYTHING I AM

This project was my first real attempt at using masks within an edit. I rotoscoped almost every single effect in this edit and one of my favorite shots is the one where I duplicated the character and turned them into different colors on the death animation. This was a super fun project to work on and I was able to be super creative with my choice of aspect ratio and masks. I also really like the colorful theme that I was using with interesting colors and light leaks.

LOOPVEMBER

This was a really simple and fast project that I was working on. I was super focused on learning displacement maps in combination with fractal noise in order to create unique glitch effects. I think I overused these effects in this edit but it creates a really interesting effect in combination with the splitting of the rgb channels. The fast cuts and agressive camera angles also help create an unique look.

BRETT RHEEDER SLOPESTYLE

This is one of my projects that I wanted to start leaning towards film and television instead of video games. I was looking at tons of music videos and other live action reference rather than animation and gaming. I still treated this as a gaming edit so I have lots of sync, pan/crop, and effects but it was on live action footage. This is very similar to a music video style of editing. Overall I really enjoyed this project and I liked the final version that I exported. The motion graphic of the phone was also really fun and creative to build. I think that the phone turned out really well.
