The Apothecary Week 23 - Finalized the Basil Rig

Over the past week from the last blog post, I have just been working on finishing Basil's rig as we have had weird bugs with Advanced Skeleton where the mouth joints wouldn't be found and it couldn't finish the rig because of the missing joints. Also the eyes would place themselves in the wrong spot often so I had to make sure they fit correctly.



As shown above, the lips had a weird bug where 4 of the vertices wouldn't move with the rest of the rig so it screwed everything up while trying to rig the face. I think this was due to geometry that wasn't optimized around the lips to Basil. The edge flow surrounded the lips until it got close and then the edge flow jumped all the way back to the mouth bag.



This was a fairly easy fix and I have a screenshot above showing the updated geometry around Basil's face. Since we needed to updated the geometry around Basil's mouth, we also updated her facial geometry so she doesn't have a large bags under her eyes anymore and the eyelids should fit more snuggly.


Other than that, the rig for our main character Basil is temporarily finished. The lips are still deforming a little bit funny, but I need to move on to different parts of the project. If I have any extra time, I will add hair joints along with updated mouth deformations. In the meantime, I will be focusing on creating the rig for the old lady. Once that is finished, I will focus on layout and animation for the rest of the project.
